In today’s world there are so many gizmos, gadgets and toys for kids, they seem to be growing up faster and faster and at much younger ages than in past years. Having all these new technologies and advancements may be beneficial in some ways but in other ways it is making our kids more materialistic. Here are some tips on how to help raise less materialistic kids.

Encourage Them to Give

One of the best ways to raise less materialistic kids is to encourage them to give. Whether it be their own possessions or even just their time and friendship, encouraging kids to give is an excellent way to instill good values in them. Start with young children and have them go through their toys and clothes and explain to them that you are going to be donating some to children who do not have as much. Let them pick out a few things of their own to give. Starting out at a young age is a great way to get them started!

Buy Less

It can be very tempting at times to try and give our children everything they want and ask for. But the reality is is that half of what they want, they truly do not need. When it comes to birthdays and Christmas, ask them for a list of a couple of things they want and narrow it down to that. Giving them less and less often will not only make them less materialistic but it will also make them appreciate everything they are given a lot more.
